Maryland Child Support

A person who has attained the age of 18 years and who is enrolled in secondary school has the right to receive support and maintenance from both of the person's parents until the first to occur of the following events:

The person dies;
The person marries;
The person is emancipated;
The person graduates from or is no longer enrolled in secondary school;
The person attains the age of 19 years.

The Court may extend child support if their is an agreement between the parties or the child has a disability.

SPECIAL NOTICE: Effective October 1, 2007 the Maryland Child Support Statute changes. Health care paid by one of the parties, under the old statute, had little impact on the amount a person paid or received in the child support calculation. Under the new Maryland child support law health insurance will be based on the percentage difference in the parties income.

For many this change could mean a significant change in what a person pays or receives in child support. Support Analysis Software, Inc. (SASI) is currently updating it's software to Courts to insure proper computation.
